Brompton M6L Black Edition '16
Brompton launched their Black Edition bikes to great acclaim in spring 2015. Black Edition means that key components (the bars, stem, and seatpost) are black rather than the usual silver, thus offering the opportunity of owning, perhaps, an even more distinctive version of this multi-award-winning folding bike.
For 2016, Brompton Black Edition bike are blacker still, coming as they do with black wheel rims and spokes.
Please note: we haven't received pics of the new Black Edition Bromptons with black rims and spokes yet, so the pics on this website still show the 2015 version of this Black Edition bike with silver rims and spokes.
'Brompton Black Edition
We are excited to launch a new take on the classic Brompton finish: The Black Edition. For the first time, the Black Edition bikes will feature a number of key components in black rather than the usual silver, and have been developed after years of interest in the possibility of an all-black Brompton.
Sleek and smart, the Black Edition is designed with the streetwise urban cyclist in mind, and gets top marks for style while retaining all of the original, carefully considered design features that makes Brompton respected across the globe. Chief Executive Officer, Will Butler-Adams OBE says of the Black Edition: "I'm lucky that my job enables me to travel to many cities around the world. One of my favourite things to do is to cycle through cities at night, the roads are often quieter and you see a different side to city life, lit up against the backdrop of the dark sky. City life at night was the inspiration behind the Black Edition, we were keen to try a sleek matt black Brompton mixed with pops of bright colour, as well as the full black effect.” The Black Edition will be available to order in models S, M and H Types, 2 and 6 speed gear options from selected dealers worldwide.'
Colour aside, this is a regular Brompton M6L
- 'M' means that this is an M-Type Brompton folding bike. This means that it has Brompton's original U-shaped bars, which bestow a comfortable upright position.
- '6' refers to its BWR [Brompton Wide Range] gearing which combines a 3-speed hub gear with a simple derailleur which moves the chain between two cogs to give you a decent range of 6 evenly-spaced gears.
- 'L' is Brompton code for coming ready fitted with mudguards.
- Every Brompton now comes with a simple Saddle Height Insert which automatically resets the seatpin at the correct height whenever you unfold the bike to ride it.
