Yesterday, the government has announced that all non-essential retail outlets should close. Bicycle shops have been exempted from these closures, and – after consultation with our staff and members – we are announcing that our stores will remain open for business until we are instructed to do otherwise.
Read the government guidance on business closures
Our workshops provide an essential service, repairing bikes and enabling commuters to travel safely to and from work.We have seen very high levels of demand recently, not least from NHS staff and other key workers who have been advised not to use public transport to travel to work.
It is important to explain that we have taken this decision as a collective, and in consultation with our staff. While there is apprehension and concern there is consensus among our staff that our services should remain available to those who need it.
No member of Bike Coop staff should feel pressured to come to work if they are ill, or if they feel it is unsafe for them to do so. We highly value our staff and the contribution they make to keeping our stores open in these anxious times.
In-store
We continue to implement a series of precautionary measures in our shops to protect staff and customers alike, and we will continue to review these procedures, in line with both government guidance and staff feedback.
If you do visit a store in the coming days, please be patient, and respect the measures we have put in place. They are there to keep you all safe.
In the event that one of our stores has to close due to staff shortage or illness, please call our General Enquiries line on 0345 257 0808, or shop online. If you have a bike to collect, we will make arrangements for you. We will keep you updated as and when the situation changes again.
Thank you for your understanding. Take care.
