Carbon composite frame and forks
Carbon frame and forks offer three main benefits – efficiency, comfort and weight. Carbon is an amazing material as it is manmade and can be made either stiff or a bit flexible. Stiff in the right spots means more of your energy is utilised in propelling you forwards and flexible in areas such as the fork and rear end make for added comfort. Giant have been making their own carbon for frames for many many years and have become one of the top companies at carbon bicycle manufacture.

Shimano 105 Di2
The Giant Defy Advanced 1 comes equipped with the newest Shimano 105 electronic groupset with smooth 12 speed shifting at a more affordable price than the higher spec Ultegra Di2 and Dura Ace Di2. Ideal for those that want quality electronic shifting at a much lower price.
Hydraulic Disc Brakes
As the shift towards disc brakes shows no sign of slowing, the Defy Advanced 1 comes with the exceptional 105 hydraulic disc brakes giving excellent stopping power in wet and dry. A more robust road bike brake pad will last longer and not wear through your expensive rims.
Front and rear through axles
With the addition of disc brakes and more powerful braking, road bikes are now learning from the mountain biking world and providing front and rear through axles to give added stability when cornering and braking for a more sure-footed ride.
Tubeless, wider tyres
Giant are one of the few companies that give you tubeless tyres ‘out the box’ which result in fewer punctures and the potential to run lower tyre pressures if you want even more comfort than already offered.
All of the above makes for an exceptionally comfortable bike as one thing that will end a ride early is fatigue due to road buzz and the Giant Defy takes a lot of the sting out of UK tarmac. The usual trade-off of this comfort is the efficiency but Giant get the balance right by providing excellent efficiency so you can ride further on the same energy or be faster over the same distance.
