Saturday (approx 40 miles): Day one follows
a peaceful route leaving the city on the car-free
riverside route to Holme Pierrepont,
then heading via the Vale of Belvoir into
Lincolnshire. There’s one surprise snap ascent
(up 80m in 1km) a third of the way up the
wold at Barkestone Wood but otherwise the
run is smooth. The traffic is infrequent but
occasionally fast on the B1176 on the long
late run into Stamford.

From Trent Bridge, Nottingham 1, head east
along the southside riverbank cycle path (National
Cycle Route 64), car-free as far as the yacht club,
connect to the roadway, Adbolton Ln, and continue
(beside the National Water Sports Centre at Holme
Pierrepont), past Holme Pierrepont Hall (where the
surface turns to crushed gravel for a short distance)
into Radcliffe on Trent
2. There head SE on the lane
(cross the A52 with care) to Cropwell Butler, E to
Tithby, continuing E to the lane that leads SE to the
edge of Langar. There turn NE to Granby
3, SE to
Plungar, NE to Barkestone-le-Vale and SE via the
crossroads, then up the steep escarpment in
Barkestone Wood to the crossroads above, NE via
High Leys and down SE to Knipton
4. N then E to
Harston, continuing to Denton. There S, cross the
A607 with care and continue S to the T-junction at
Hungerton 5. There turn NE and after a short fork
right, E to Stroxton, continuing to Little Ponton
6.

Continue through the village and past the hall,
beneath the railway line and right to meet the B6403
(by Woodnook). Turn S on that and after a long mile
turn left, E, to Boothby Pagnell. There pick up the
B1176 S and follow that for 4 miles to dogleg left/
right with care on the A151, continuing S on the
B1176 via Little Bytham to pick up the A6121 into
Stamford 7.

Sunday (approx 40 miles): Head back over the
rolling wolds around Wymondham (where there’s a
fine windmill and tea-room) and Waltham.
From Stamford pick up the B1081 NW via Great
Casterton 8. Continue beneath the A1 then turn off
at Tickencote beside the park W on lanes to the
crossroads at the farm. Continue W, turning N to
Exton, and W to the T-junction. Go N to Cottesmore
9, continuing N for a long mile to the left-turn, W, to
Barrow. Continue W, NW, SW, NW to Teigh,
Edmondthorpe and Wymondham 10. Continue N,
NW to Garthorpe, and Waltham on the Wolds 11.
Continue NW via White Lodge to the Crossroads Fm, continue NW with a flying downhill swoop off the Harby Hills to Harby 12. Leave the village NW (not NNW) on the road to Colston Basset. There head through the village and via Sandpit Hollow to the crossroads beyond the former Grantham Canal. Go N to Cropwell Bishop, continuing, via a dogleg right/left, to Cropwell Butler and retrace your pedal strokes back via Radcliff e-on-Trent to Nottingham 13.
