Intensive Cycle Maintenance Course Women's

This is identical to our standard 1-day course in cycle maintenance, but it's for women only (though sometimes the tutor/mechanic is a guy).

'Intensive' refers to the fact that the complete course takes place over one day. (We sometimes run 2-hour evening class courses over 2 or 6-week. These courses are intrinsically less intensive.) Anyway, the point we are making here is that our Intensive Cycle Maintenance Courses are fun, rewarding and suitable for absolute beginners.

The Intensive Cycle Maintenance Women's Course runs from 10:00-17:30. You will spend the day getting to know your way around the bike.

  • Puncture repair: wheel removal, locating punctures, fixing punctures, wheel refitting.
  • Wheel truing - essential for better braking.
  • Brake adjustment for powerful, silent stopping.
  • Adjusting hub bearings for maximum life and smooth running.
  • Gear adjustment: including fitting new cables and fine tuning front and rear mechanisms.
  • Bottom bracket and headset adjustment.
  • Recommendations for routine bicycle servicing.
  • The price includes a light lunch which is supplied by Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op/

Q. The intensive bike maintenance course describes Adjusting hub bearings, Bottom bracket and headset adjustment. Is this a hands on exercise or a demonstration? If hands on do we do it on our own bikes?
A. Our Intensive Maintenance Class is very much a hands on experience (rubber gloves are supplied), you will be invited to work on your own bike if at all possible - this way you gain familiarity with your bike and your bike gets a service as well. If you need, we can supply a bike for you to work on.

All the work you do will be under the supervision of one of our trained mechanics in our fully equipped workshop, but we do recommend that you don't wear your best clothes, as it is a workshop environment! You'll get a printed handout that acts as a reminder for when you next tackle your bike.
