Whyte Whitechapel

The Whitechapel is your introduction to the Whyte R7 Fast Urban Series made famous by the Whyte Stirling, Cambridge and Portobello.

Custom-drawn hydroformed 6061 T6 aluminium frame
The Whitechapel shares the same custom-drawn hydroformed 6061 T6 aluminium frame and the proven geometry that has helped make the Whyte Stirling, Cambridge and Portobello such exemplary bikes for everyday riding.

Proven Geometry
A Whitechapel frame (medium size) matches a 73 degree seat tube angle with a 70 degree head angle. The steep seat angle helps you power the cranks. The relaxed head angle and the long wheelbase delivers high speed stability.

Whyte R7 Fast Urban Road Bike Overview
Also known as 'urban flatbars', R7 bikes combine close-to road bike speed courtesy of its smooth puncture resistant 700x28 roadie tyres.

With its semi-riser bars, equipped with hydraulic brake levers and Shimano Rapidfire gear shifters always within comfortable reach, it offers the easy handling normally associated with a good quality mountain bike.

Whyte R7 Fast Urban Road Bikes are fast becoming the first choice of experienced cyclists who normally ride a mountain bike or a racing bike, but are looking for a flatbar city bike that doesn't compromise performance: hence the lightweight butted aluminium frame; the simplified single-chainring gear shifting and the unique security offered by high quality hydraulic disc brakes.

Shimano Altus/Acera 1x9 Simplified Gear Shifting
One shifter, one gear mech, one cog and one chainset means less weight and less to go wrong, yet the Shimano 11-34 cassette offers a wide enough gear range for the majority of city riders.

Tektro Auriga Hydraulic Disc Brakes
Tektro Auriga stoppers deliver single-digit modulated braking - i.e. all it takes is a light squeeze of the lever with a single fingertip to apply each brake. Proven on high-spec mountain bikes over more than a decade, Tektro hydraulic disc brakes now feature on better quality urban bikes, such as the Whyte Whitechapel. This makes sense because consistent confidence-inspiring braking is at least as important on the road as it is on the trail.

Disc Brake-Specific Wheels
The deep section rims are optimised for disc brakes and sport 3M reflective decals to help you get spotted from all sides.

Mudguard and Rack Compatible
Custom dropouts enable Whyte to mount the rear hydraulic disc brake caliper inside the rear triangle, making it rack and mudguards compatible. If you want any extras fitted to a Whyte Whitechapel, such as Whyte's matching mudguards, let us know when you order the bike and we will customise the bike to your requirements at no extra labour charge.

'The Whitechapel is all about simplicity: a single chain ring and nine gears at the back will give years of urban use, and by placing the disc brake caliper inside the rear triangle, adding mudguards or a rack couldn’t be easier.

Based on our high performance mountain bike geometry, all our Fast Urban bikes have a long wheelbase and relaxed head angle for high speed stability, and a shorter stem for excellent slow speed manoeuvrability.

Our shaped, butted and uniquely profiled rear stays give all our fast urban bikes a fantastically responsive and comfortable ride..'

Aluminium Custom Tubing
Whyte specify premium grade 6061 aluminium, specially developed to allow for hydro-forming (where hot oil is pumped through the tube at pressure to fine-tune its profile).

Every tube is custom drawn to Whyte's own specifications to ensure it's as thin walled as can be without compromising strength - a formula that helps make Whyte bikes among the lightest in every class.

Whyte Geometry
When we talk about a bicycle’s geometry, we’re talking about the angles and measurements that determine where the rider is positioned between the wheels, and how the bike connects with the ground. More than the components or the frame material, a bike’s geometry defines the way it rides. It's the key factor that sets Whyte apart from the competition.

The Whyte formula has been 15 years in the making. It’s a formula that inspires confidence in beginners and casual cyclists alike, whilst allowing Whyte's expert race teams to perform to the absolute limits of their ability. Confidence is Whyte's ultimate goal when designing a bike.

This confidence is achieved by combining a relaxed head angle (the angle the fork comes out of the frame) with a longer than average front centre to create a bike that is stable at speed and feels predictable, especially when the terrain gets steeper. To sharpen up the steering response for low-speed precision, wide handlebars and short stems are specced. At the back of the bike, the aim is to make the chainstays as short as physically possible to maximise the bike’s agility. It’s a formula that works in all situations, whatever your ambitions and whatever your level of skill.

Q. What is bcd of cranks? What's smallest chainring I could fits?
A. It looks as though it is 130bcd so the smallest chainring available would be 38T.
