With its shorter wheelbase and higher bottom bracket, the Saxon is the purest out-and-out cross racing bike in the Whyte range.

    Upgrades from Whyte Charing Cross

    • Avid BB-7 ball bearing-actuated mechanical disc brakes.
    • SRAM Apex 2x10 drivetrain.
    • Smoother spinning sealed cartridge bearing hubs.

The Saxon's custom-drawn hydroformed butted frame geometry (69-70.5 degree head angle and 72.5-74 degree seat angle) is similar to Whyte's proven trail bike geometry. This makes a Whyte cross more adept when you need to manoeuvre the bike in tight off road situations - or when you have to quickly steer round a pothole when spinning through a gap in the traffic.

    Whyte Custom-drawn Tubing
Whether it’s titanium, aluminium or steel, every Whyte metal frame is built with custom drawn tubes. This means that they go to the expense of speccing a different tube set for each frame size. Apparently, it’s normal practice for bike companies to save money by using the same tube set for every size. This means that a butted tubeset will have to be designed around the smallest frame size. Say the smallest frame size is 16”. When the tubes are cut to size, they will have a short thicker-walled section at each end as you would expect from butted tubes. When the same tube set is used to create a 21” frame a much larger proportion of the tube will be thick walled. That’s why large frames are often disproportionately heavier than they need be. Custom tubing is your guarantee that the frame will be as light as possible in every size.

    Ask a question
    Q. Hi, I'm a little taller at 6ft 4" is this suitable? Thanks
    A. At 6'4" the 59cm Saxon Cross should be a comfortable fit for someone of your height. Whyte use a mountain bike based geometry on their Cross bikes which gives quite a long top tube. Sizing is not the same as with a most other brands who use a road style geometry. Compared to for example a 61cm Tricross the 59cm Saxon Cross will size up quite similarly.
    Q. Hi I am 5ft 6ins, what size would be best? Many Thanks
    A. For a rider of 5'6" we would normally recommend Whyte's smaller Saxon Cross, which is unfortunately sold out with our supplier.
