Whyte Pimlico Women's
Whyte's fast commuter/hybrid bike could be your passport to Pimlico - and way beyond.
With its shorter reach to the handlebars and its extra stepover height, the Pimlico is primarily designed for women. However, Whyte describe the Pimlico as 'Compact-Fit' rather than 'ladies' to underline the fact that it could be the perfect bike for shorter guys too.
Upgrades from Whyte Victoria
- Carbon fork - upgrading from a metal to a carbon fork is probably the single most significant upgrade you can make on a commuter/road bike.
- As well as being lighter weight, a carbon fork will be vertically more compliant to help smooth the ride and laterally stiffer to help prevent juddering.
- The SRAM Via transmission offers a great spread of usable gears in a simplified 2x10 format via its SRAM 48/32 chainset and 11-32 cassette.
Whyte R7 Fast Urban Road Bike Overview
Also known as 'urban flatbars' R7 bikes combine close to road bike speed with the flatbar handling control, familiar to anyone who has enjoyed riding a mountain bike with riser bars equipped with high quality brake and gear levers.
Whyte R7 Fast Urban Road Bikes are fast becoming the first choice of experienced cyclists who normally ride a mountain bike or a racing bike, but are looking for a flatbar city bike that doesn't compromise performance: hence the lightweight butted aluminium frame, the carbon-bladed forks, the zippy puncture-resistant 700x28 tyres, and the unique control offered by high quality hydraulic disc brakes.
Tektro Auriga Hydraulic Disc Brakes
Tektro Auriga stoppers deliver single-digit modulated braking - i.e. all it takes is a light squeeze of the lever with a single fingertip to apply each brake. Proven on high-spec mountain bikes over the past decade, Tektro hydraulic disc brakes now feature on better quality urban bikes, such as the Whyte Pimlico. This makes sense because consistent confidence-inspiring braking is at least as important on the road as it is on the trail.
Whyte Custom-drawn Tubing
Every Whyte aluminium frame is built with custom drawn tubes. This means that Whyte go to the expense of spec'ing a different tube set for each frame size. Apparently, it’s normal practice for bike companies to save money by using the same tube set for every size. This means that a butted tubeset will have to be designed around the smallest frame size. Say the smallest frame size is 16”. When the tubes are cut to size, they will have a short thicker-walled section at each end as you would expect from butted tubes. When the same tube set is used to create a 21” frame a much larger proportion of the tube will be thick walled. That’s why large frames are often disproportionately heavier than they need be. Custom tubing is Whyte's guarantee that the frame will be as light as possible in every size.
Mudguard and Rack Compatible
Custom dropouts enable Whyte to mount the rear hydraulic disc brake caliper inside the rear triangle, making it rack and mudguards compatible. If you want any extras fitted to a Whyte Pimlico, such as Whyte's matching mudguards, let us know when you order the bike and we will customise the bike to your requirements at no extra labour charge.
'The lightweight aluminium frame employs compact geometry to make this bike a perfect fit for female riders, while a carbon fork does a great job of damping out road buzz.
Based on our high performance mountain bike geometry, the Pimlico has a long wheelbase and relaxed head angle for high speed stability, a shorter stem for excellent slow speed manoeuvrability and slightly shorter and lower top tube to fit a woman’s physique better.
The Pimlico takes advantage of SRAM’s Via Centro groupset, specifically designed for urban riding with optimised ratios and slightly wider Q factor for a little more heel clearance.'
