Specialized New All Condition Armadillo 700x23 Tyre
So reliable, you can almost forget the spare tube.
The All Condition tyre is Specialized's do-everything road tyre. It boasts a dual-compound siped tread. The centre tread is hard so it's exceptionally fast (low rolling resistance). The shoulder tread is softer for safe, predictable cornering.
- The motorcycle-inspired DRT (dual radius tread) minimises contact when you're riding straight ahead, then it maximises the tyre's contact patch, hence traction, when you corner.
- The low-friction 70a centre tread compound is very hard wearing.
- The softer 60a shoulder compound ensures better grip when you corner.
- Wire bead.
- Armadillo bead-to-bead puncture protection.
- Recommended inflation: 115-125 psi.
- 405g.
Armadillo
Armadillo means 'bead-to-bead' puncture protection, not just sub-tread puncture resistance. As a heavy 15 stone rider, I used to expect a few punctures every year. Then I fitted Armadillo tyres and have since enjoyed 3 puncture-free years. In fact Armadillo's are so reliable, I now think of the spare tube as something I carry to give away to riders that still rely on lesser tyres.

Tremendous improvement tyre from the stock option on my bike. I commute on cycle paths / pavements and the occasional road. Regular commute is 30 miles a day. The stock option on my Tricross Sport saw me through the frosty and icy mornings but I wanted something that would roll fast for Spring and Summer. These are just the tyre for this kind of upgrade - brilliant protection and crikey they roll so much faster. Stunning difference in what's effectively a low cost upgrade. If you are upgrading from winter tyres or cyclocross tyres for something with great protection and faster rolling - these are the tyres. They are tight to fit but I risked a quick use of tyre levers to get the last part of tyre on before my thumbs exploded from the strain! Worked fine. Now I reckon I can keep up with the roadies! |
