Specialized Hotrock 12
Lighter, brighter, better. That’s the Hotrock formula.
The Specialized Hotrock 12 fits boys and girls from 2-3 years old. The frame, fork, bars, stem and wheel rims are all aluminium. This makes the Hotrock a good 2 kilos / 5lb lighter weight than a regular steel 12 inch-wheeled bike. Being this light, the Hotrock 12 is more controllable and manoeuvrable. In other words, paying a little more for a Specialized delivers a first bike that's safer and virtually guaranteed to offer more pleasure. Also, being Specialized, you know the Hotrock is built to last so there's every chance it will be fit to pass on to a friend, cousin or sibling in years to come.
As ever with Specialized, it's all about the detail. When you're 3 years old, you'll probably find the coaster (back pedal) brake easier to operate than a brake lever. The low centre of gravity makes it very stable. The 'further forward' bottom bracket will feel familiar to a youngster stepping up from a tricycle. An integrated handle at the back of the saddle gives the cycle instructor a hand hold for supporting the bike when teaching the child to ride.
- Lightweight yet durable aluminium frame.
- The alloy fork is also very light and helps make the Hotrock easy to control and easy to steer.
- The Specialized Hotrock 12's moving parts (headset, hubs and bottom bracket) roll on real ball bearings - again built to last. (Kids' bikes often turn on nylon bushings. They don't last as long as steel balls).
- Flat grippy pedals help keep feet in place.
- Real brand name (Specialized) tyres are 12 x 2 inch wide, stable, smooth-running and durable.
- MTB-style alloy riser handlebars and Kraton grips for control and comfort.
- Stout stabilisers - easily removed in if/when not required.
- Standover height: 14 " / 35.5cm.
- Approximate weight: - 7.7kg / 16.9lb.
