Specialized Ground Control 2BR Tyre
Specialized Ground Control 2BR Tyre 26x2.1 or 29x2.1 inch
The Specialized Ground Control is the classic grippy mountain bike tyre for all conditions.
With tons of mud-clearing space between each large knob, the great-gripping Specialized Ground Control was the cult mountain bike tyre in the 1980s.
As is the way with many great designs, the Ground Control disappeared - we presume because tyre manufacturers such as Specialized started concentrating on developing terrain-specific lines such as soft-conditions or hard-conditions or DH tyres.
To there credit, Specialized have listened to riders who asked them to 'bring back the Groundie'.
The result is a tyre that takes the original Ground Control's legendary all-conditions tread pattern and improves on it via Specialized's unique FEA software-developed Adaptive Tread Technology and their 2Bliss Ready casing.
- Butyl-wrapped 2Bliss Ready bead means you can run this tyre with an inner tube or tubeless.
- Supple 120 tpi casing.
- The foldable Aramid bead saves weight and makes the tyre easier to fit.
- A folding tyre is also easier to carry as a spare.
- Inflation Range: 35-65psi.
- 505g (26 inch version) - comparatively lightweight without being puny.
Specialized Ground Control History
Back in the day, if a mountain biker asked our advice on maximising traction when riding UK terrain, our first advice would be to ditch
the bike’s original tyres (usually designed for dry hardback) for a pair of ‘groundies’. This advice, like UK riding conditions, hasn’t changed.
TPI refers to the tyre casing's thread per inch count. The more threads per inch the better. A tyre with a higher TPI will be more supple. Most production bikes come with tyres around 30 TPI. Better bikes with 60 TPI tyres. High-end £1,000+ bikes usually have 120 TPI tyres. Pro racing tyres can be 300-500 TPI.
'Resurrected from the archives, yet modernised with the same FE Analysis as the Fast Trak, we've brought the Ground Control back for the masses! With Adaptive Tread technology, we're able to offer XC Trail riders the most fastest, grippiest tyre for all conditions.'

|Really impressed by how much different my bike feels with this tyre, fitted it on the rear with a Purgatory Control upfront. Wheel felt a lot smoother and bike was a lot more responsive when putting the power down. Customer service from Edinburgh Cycles was superb as always.|
