I've been riding mountain bikes for 8 years on my 12-mile commute to and from work each day and was always resistant to anything remotely resembling a road bike. Until now. This bike has been a revelation. It's simple and straightforward and harks back to what a bike used to be - no gears, no suspension, no weighty disc brakes. But this is 2012 so things have moved on a bit - for one thing it weighs next to nothing. It looks cracking and, surprisingly, has no big Specialized labelling. Instead you get a key which you can use to scratch your own designs into the grey paint (they'll show up pink like the forks). The bike handles superbly on Edinburgh's busy roads, very nippy in rush-hour traffic. Tough going on the uphill’s as you'd expect with no gears, but fairly flies everywhere else. Definitely one of the best cycling buys I've made. |
