Specialized Epic Comp Carbon 29
'With a FACT carbon frame, 100mm of travel, and custom SRAM gearing the Epic Comp Carbon is a fast and efficient cross-country trail bike.'
Specialized.
Upgrades from Specialized Epic Comp
The FACT IS 9m carbon FSR frame with M5 alloy rear triangle with dedicated 29er geometry, sealed cartridge bearing pivots and 142mm dropouts delivers strength, rigidity, and suppleness to create an uncompromising 100mm-travel competitive XC bike.
Same as Specialized Epic Comp
The Epic is Specialized's famous dual-suspension XC mountain bike with a Brain. It features the Specialized-designed Fox-manufactured Mini Brain shock with Brain Fade inertia valve. Brain Fade's inertia valve automatically firms up the suspension on the smooth and becomes fully active 100mm-travel when the terrain gets lumpy.
Sign of the times: EVERY Specialized Epic 2012 model has 29 inch wheels because Specialized believe the benefits of bigger wheels are especially relevant for the fast cross country riding this bike excels in.
Specialized compensate for the longer fork legs that 29" wheels require by building the Epic Comp with a shorter head tube. That way you get the big fork benefits of better leverage yet the handlebars on a medium Epic are no higher than they would be on a 26" wheel model, so you can still carve round corners.
Specialized also compensate for the longer chainstays that a 29" rear wheel requires by curving the Epic' seat tube forward where it meets the bottom bracket. That way, the Epic Comp retains the quick-handling benefits of a tight rear end. These tweaks ensure that the Epic's contact points (the saddle and pedals) will exactly imitate sitting on the same sized 26" wheel Specialized.
Because the Specialized Epic's saddle, bottom bracket and bars exactly replicate their position on a 26" wheeled Specialized MTB, the bike will feel natural and familiar to ride. Then you get the benefits of a 29er. The bottom bracket is lower in relation to the wheel hubs. This drops the bike's centre of gravity so you sit 'more in the bike'. The bike feels more stable on downhills. The big tyres roll over rocks easier and up hills faster. The net result is a hardtail that will help you knock 2 minutes off an hour-long ride round a typical World Cup XC circuit.
- With their Roval rims and Specialized cartridge sealed bearing rims, these 29 inch wheels shift.
- SRAM 2x10 shifting with 24/38 chanirings and 11-36 cassette is an intelligent choice for Epic rides.
- Custom Avid Elixir 7 SL hydraulic disc brakes round off an exceptional package.
