    Specialized Crosstrail Sport Disc

    This is the Specialized Crosstrail upgraded with hydraulic disc brakes, Shimano Acera 3x9 Rapidfire gearing and SR SunTour SR forks with lockout.

    Upgrades from Specialized Crosstrail

    • With the Crosstrail Sport Disc, the disc brakes have been upgraded to hydraulics so they are more powerful and efficient than the standard Crosstrail's V-brakes.
    • Moving the brakes from the mud and rain-attracting wheel rims to the relatively clean hubs makes for an improvement in the brakes’ all-weather all-conditions performance. Disc brake pads are much harder so they last much longer. So do the rims now that they are no longer worn down by the brake pads. The benefits of hydraulic disc brakes is that they are mechanically more efficient, while hydraulic hoses, unlike cables, are not prone to fraying, rusting, kinking and breaking.
    • A dial atop the SR SunTour fork leg makes it easy to lock out the suspension, for instance when you’d prefer rigid fork-like bob-free efficiency on the uphills.
    • Shimano Acera 3x9 Rapidfire gearing is even slicker and more positive than Shimano 3x8 EZ Fire.

    The suspension forks and the tyres define the Crosstrail as Specialized's go-anywhere bike. Specialized Borough 700x45 tyres are faster than MTB knobblies but have enough bite to offer traction in loose conditions. The SR fork is perfect for entry level trail centre use. Specialized’s own Body Geometry saddle and grips ensure comfort wherever you ride. As with the whole Crosstrail family, eyelets for fitting mudguards and rack ensure functionality.

    I went into Edinburgh Bicycle looking for a sporty looking fast bike. I was a bit worried that the tyres on the road racer bikes were too thin and would be a problem in the wet weather, I tested a cross bike and just hated it. I felt every bump and pot hole, went back into the shop disheartened. The staff at the shop were brilliant and suggested I tried the Specialized Crosstrail Sport Disc '12. The bike was everything that I was looking for, fast, built to last and sporty looking. I have covered quite a bit of distance now in all weather conditions and even over rough terrain. No complaints at all about the bike. It's a pleasure to ride. I'm 6'4" and got the XXL frame, which allows me to sit high. Certainly recommended.

    Q. Is it possible to have mudguards & rack fitted?
    A. It is possible to have mudguards and a rack fitted to the Specialized Crosstrail Sport Disc. If you order a rack and mudguards with the bike we offer a free fitting service. As the Crosstrail has disc brakes it would require a disc specific rack. We would recommend the M:Part Ridge rack which you can see here. With mudguards we would recommend the SKS P50 mudguards for wide hybrid bikes.
