Specialized BG Sport Touring Shoe

Specialized's BG Sport Touring Shoe falls very much into the 'intermediate' category. Its SlipNot sole is stiffer than you'll find on most trainer-style cycling shoes, but easier to walk in than any pure road race shoe. For many riders, be it for sportives, commuting or, indeed, touring, the Specialized BG Sport Touring Shoe is a very happy medium. To sum up, this is a handsome pair of mostly black cycling shoes that are also fine for short walks.

  • The upper is mostly synthetic leather with a touch of mesh.
  • The leather is supple and it's perforated to help make it faster drying.
  • Compatible with SPD and similar 2-bolt pedal cleats.
  • As well as having the usual cleat 'pocket' the SlipNot sole has a BG saddle-like groove running down the middle to further prevent contact between the cleat and the floor when you walk in them.
  • The shoes have a cleat hole cover which you need never remove if you prefer to ride with non-cleated regular pedals.
  • It only takes a minute to remove this cleat hole cover with a stanley blade.
  • The soles measure 5.0 on the Specialized stiffness scale (cf the Specialized Tahoe's 3.0 stiffness and the Specialized BG Pro Roadshoe's 11.0 stiffness rating.
  • 3 x Velcro strap closure.
  • 800g per pair (we weighed a size 42 pair).

BG (Body Geometry) Shoes
Specialized employed Dr Andy Pruitt, renowned U.S. author, sports scientist and national coach, in the development of their Body Geometry range of shoes. BG Shoes boast a special footbed which optimises the foot’s position and thus helps eliminate pressure on both the knee and the foot bones, and helps reduce the possibility of pedalling-induced numbness and hot spots.

After purchasing a pair of SPD pedals and cleats I opted for these shoes.

Have now had them 4 months and am really pleased with them.

The sole is stiff yet practical as it allows short walks without announcing your arrival to the world by clip clopping around and you could enter a supermarket for a quick snack without having to slip and slide across the floor as I'd imagine you would do with some pure road shoes.

The stitching has remained completely intact over the last 4 months and the velcro straps as good as the day they were bought.

Really comfortable to wear - good to try out size above and size below for optimum fit. I erred on the side of slightly neater fit and they broke in well and loosened up to a perfect fit.

Have done 2000 miles plus in these already and would definitely recommend.
