Shimano Sora 3500 Dual Pivot Brake Calliper

Sora makes Shimano Super SLR performance more affordable.

SLR stands for Shimano Linear Response - an integrated lever, cable and calliper system that minimises friction and maximises brake power and modulation.

Shimano's much-copied Dual Pivot brake calliper is a key part of this design. This means that each brake arm pivots independently so you are far less likely to suffer problems of centering the brakes as was the case with old-school single pivot systems where it was more likely for one pad to rub against the rim

  • Supplied as a single brake calliper.
  • Fits front or rear.
  • The Sora 3500 calliper now boasts easy toe-in (same as more expensive Shimano brakes up to Dura-Ace).
  • A washer on the brake shoe's fixing bolt makes it easier to toe the brake in the recommended 0.5mm to help eliminate brake squeal.

Shimano are the world's largest bicycle component company, thanks to their ability to innovate and perfect - think indexed gear shifting, Hyperglide cassettes STI, XT, SPD, STEPS…

Q. I have an old steel frame Raleigh road bike in dire need of new brakes. I bought a pair of Shimano Sora 3500 brakes (from EBC) but have found that they don't "reach" the rim. That is, even at maximum adjustment, the pads hit the tyre, not the rim. Is there an alternative part that has a greater reach? The radial distance from the mounting hole to the rim is about 59mm on this bike. Thanks.
A. It is possible to get long reach brakes that should suit your Raleigh. Shimano do offer long reach options on other callipers such as Tiagra however only up to a 57mm drop. We can order in Tektro brakes that should be ideal for your Raleigh with a 55-73mm drop. The Tektro R538 brakes are £44.99 for a pair. They are though currently out of stock with the supplier so make take a few weeks to order.
