Shimano PD-M647 Pedals
Marketed as a DH (downhill) racing pedal, the PD-M647 is actually an excellent pedal for near any style of riding, bar road racing.
It's like 2 pedals in one - a double-sided SPD pedal enclosed in a large, supportive BMX-style pedal.
- The SPD section has pop-up bindings which position the body at a 12.5˚ angle for easy and fast entry.
- The large outer pedal cage allows you to ride 'unconnected' when the terrain is too sketchy to ride with the shoes clipped into the SPD bindings.
- Similarly, unlike standard SPDs, you can ride PD-M647s in your everyday shoes. The pop-up binding is pressed flat while the flat cage supports the foot.
- Anodized aluminum pedal body.
- Resin cage.

Extremely robust set of pedals. I have been running a set of these off-road for 2+ years, and besides the scuffs and dirt they are still working as new. The platform is wide enough to let you unclip in sketchy sections and still keep your foot on the pedals. Mine have collided and bounced off numerous rocks without ever being damaged. Being clipped in helps you fly up the climbs and gives you more control coming down. Spring tensions can be adjusted so it is easy to clip-out when you need to put a foot down on slippery corners. |
