Revolution Continental
The Revolution Continental is great value introduction to the unique pleasure of owning a lightweight (i.e. sub-25lb) road bike.
If you're used to riding an MTB or hybrid and you would like to shed noticeable time off your weekend triathlon or your weekday commute, you will be amazed how much easier it is to pick up speed on a bike like this. Whether you take it out for an afternoon burn or an after-work blast or even on your daily commute, you won't believe the exhilaration of riding such a swift fitness machine
- The aluminium frame and fork contribute to the bike's light weight.
- The classy white finish contributes to the Continental's classy good looks.
- The Continental is built on a compact geometry frame. This is the new standard adopted by most bike companies since Giant pioneered compact geometry in the 1990s. Compact geometry means that the frame is designed to be just big enough and no more. The compact frame's top tube slopes up from the seat tube to the head tube so the handlebars are at a comfortable height. A long seat post ensures you can still pedal efficiently. The low top tube maximises your stepover clearance for maximum manoeuvrability. Simultaneously the improved stiffness of the compact frame's shorter tubes helps you realise the bike's full acceleration potential.
- To complement the frame, the 700c wheels guarantee a fast exciting ride.
- Shimano 2203 Dual Control shifters integrate the gear levers with the brake levers. This allows you to change through the 2 x 8-speed gears without taking your hands off the brake hoods, hence no loss of control or momentum. When changing gear is this simple, it becomes as unconscious as taking breath. And when changing gear becomes no big deal, you're more likely to ride in the right one.
- Tektro Dual Pivot brakes inspire confidence. If your last road bike had pre-1990s single-pivot sidepull brakes you'll be amazed by the flex-free solid performance of the modern Dual Pivot brake.
You would expect to find many of the above features on most similarly priced road bike these day. The Continental stands out from the crowd, however, by coming with a number of features rarely seen on such a modestly priced lightweight.
Mudguard Compatible
Riding our revolutionary road bike need not be confined to lovely summer days and continental weather. Mudguard compatability makes it an all-weather machine you can enjoy all year round. To achieve mudguard compatibility, the frame an fork are built with sufficient wheel clearance and their dropouts are eyeletted to accept mudguard stay bolts. Similarly, the 57mm-drop Tektro Dual Pivot brakes are longer reach than regular roadie 49mm brakes to ensure there's sufficient clearance between wheels and brakes for you to fit the mudguards (or better still, ask us to fit the mudguards when you order the bike and we will waive the standard fitting charge).
700x25 Tyres
The tyres are another deviation from the norm. The Continental's 700x25 tyres will never slow you down but they are that bit more forgiving than ubiquitous 700x23s when the roads are less than smooth.
Compact Transmission
The FSA chainset has 'compact' 34/50 chainrings. Compared with a regular racing 39/53 or 42/52 setup, compact chainrings offer a wider range of useful gears for most riders, while being lighter weight and simpler to use than a triple chainset.
Summary of the Revolution Continental's Features
- Lightweight 7005 aluminium compact-geometry frame with mudguard clearance.
- Compact geometry - lighter, stiffer and more stepover height than traditional road bike geometry.
- Aluminium forks help keep the bike's weight as low as it will go at this sort of price.
- Shimano 2200 Dual Control STI shifters.
- Tektro forged alloy Dual Pivot brakes with 57mm clearance. Moving on 2 independent pivot point (one for each arm) the Dual Pivot brake is far more flex resistant than traditional single pivot side-pull which were common before the 1990s. This design makes Dual Pivot brakes far more reliably solid and less likely to judder when applied.
- Alloy QR wheels with Revolution machined alloy double wall rims on Formula cassette rear freehub.
- The cassette freehub makes for a stronger wheel than a conventional threaded-for-freewheel hub because the axle is better balanced by the more-outboard right-hand bearings. With its cones and bearings equidistant from the centre of the axle, the freehub has helped make broken rear axles history.
- Revolution Competition Series Saddle with cutaway groove to relieve pressure.
- Revolution Competition 440mm wide drop bars with 31.8mm centre - the new standard - for strength.
- These bars are wrapped in comfy, shock-damping, gel-padded Velo cork tape.
- Size-specific Revolution Competition handlebar stem - the 48cm Continental has a 75mm stem, the 52cm Continental has a 90, the 56cm model has a 105mm extension.
- Approximate Weight: 11.3kg / 24.86lb (based upon weighing one example of this bike. We weigh the whole bike as you would receive it with pedals reflectors and bell - items many bike companies remove before weighing their bicycles. Weights can fluctuate between different sizes and builds so please regard our published weights as a useful but inexact guide.)
