Protective don't just source any old neoprene to produce their Bootleg. They use Japanese Yamamoto neoprene, manufactured from calcium carbonate limestone which is extracted from 80 million year old shell secretions deposited on the ocean floor.

As well as being more sustainable than oil-based neoprene, Yamamoto neoprene is more stretchy (480% elongation). Its cells trap more gas so it keeps you warmer. It is 95% water impermeable (oil-based neoprene is up to 70%). Its drag coefficient is 0.032 compared with an old school neoprene drag coefficient of 4.

How the Protective Neoprene Bootleg Works

• Before you put your shoes on, slip the Protective Neoprene Bootlegs over your ankles, just above where the top of your overshoes would sit.
• Slip into your shoes and overshoes as usual.
• Slip the bottom of the the Protective Neoprene Bootlegs over the top of your overshoes to create a slash-proof seal.
