Protective Kashi
The Protective Kashi Jacket looks great, keeps out the weather, and weighs little more than a shirt. Awesome.
More and more cycling jackets are sold these days with the boast, 'They'll look okay off the bike too, down the pub, at the football match, or whatever.' We believe the Protective Kashi falls into that category more than any other jacket. The Protective Kashi is truly stylish - check the jaunty angle of the rear pocket's waterproof zip. Admire the industrial lettering proudly boasting PROTECTIVE in reflective lettering. And why not? Aren't they Germany's Number One cycle costumiers? As ever from Protective, the Kashi's cool looks (you could imagine those cycle nuts Kraftwork wearing them) don't compromise its performance one iota. The Protective Kashi's fantastic breathability (15,000g/square metre) and light weight (390g) means this is a jacket you could wear in comfort in an overheated club, as much as you could wear it on the bike in the heat of a race or a fast commute.
- The waterproof, breathable membrane Dermizax fabric from Japan is fabulously flexible, and boasts a satiny ‘hand’ and water-beading outer weave.
- Taped seams enhance the waterproofing.
- 15,000mm water column - i.e. the fabric can hold 15,000mm of water without leaking. A fabric is deemed waterproof if it can hold 1,000mm of water. The Protective Kashi Jacket therefore exceeds the accepted definition of 'waterproof' by a factor of 15.
- Similarly PRD fabric's breathability also gets top rating - 15,000g/sq. metre.
- Water-resistant full-length front zip with inner wind flap.
- Fleece 'zip locker' prevents uncomfortable contact between cold zip and warm skin.
- Rear pocket with water resistant zip.
- Large Napoleon pocket with water resistant zip.
- Black.
- Protective Sizing Guide.
- 390g.
Protective Rain Defense
PRD - Protective Rain Defense (sic) - garments are waterproof, windproof & breathable. PRD garments are extremely robust. PRD garments are anatomically cut to guarantee maximum freedom of movement. PRD fabrics are made from either laminated layers (same as Gore-Tex) or with micro porous coatings which are guaranteed waterproof to a minimum 3000mm water column (a fabric is deemed waterproof if it can hold 1,000mm of water). To further guarantee proofing, critical seams are taped, and zips are either water resistant or covered with a storm flap. To sum up, PRD offers a stylish and technical antidote to anoraks.

Softshell makes this jacket feel good, also appears to be tear resistant? When I fell off on ice at Xmas and slid down the road my EBC long sleeved top and my arm both ripped open but the top layer Kashi remained intact. When wet the jacket dries quickly which means you are cosy for the commute home. My criticism is common to any waterproof jacket. I am a big sweater possibly due to an extra base layer/pelt of body hair that appeared on my back when I was 27. The Kashi wicks some sweat away but not all. Waterproof-ness weaker at cuffs and neck the same as other jackets. |
