Intensive Maintenance Class
This single-day course is our most popular class. You get a whole day's (10:00 - 18:00y) tuition getting to know your way around the bike. If you bring your own bike you can work on this for some of the day. If you can't, let us know and we'll supply one for you.
- Puncture repair: wheel removal, locating punctures, fixing punctures, wheel refitting.
- Wheel truing - essential for better braking.
- Brake adjustment for powerful, silent stopping.
- Adjusting hub bearings for maximum life and smooth running.
- Gear adjustment: including fitting new cables and fine tuning front and rear mechanisms.
- Bottom bracket and headset adjustment.
- Recommendations for routine bicycle servicing.

The course run by Carl in the Newcastle shop this weekend was excellent. It was practical with plenty of hands on experience. I leant a lot of new things and some great tips for road side repairs. I recommend this course to anyone who is not an experienced cycle mechanic.
I loved this course and, having never even removed a wheel or repaired a puncture previously, feel confident I can now true a wheel, adjust my brakes and gears, and remove parts without fear of returning them incorrectly. Our tutor was extremely knowledgeable, despite each of the six attendees having different types of brakes, gears etc. He constantly checked we were happy with progress, and understanding of what and why we were doing what we were doing. It might sound a bit daft but I feel I have a better relationship with my bike as a result.
Enjoyed a very good day in Sheffield. The class was informative and the staff friendly and knowledgable. They showed great committment to customer service and ensured all our questions were answered. They were flexible and adjusted the schedule of the day to focus on the areas that we particularly needed to cover. Thank you very much - I would highly recommend the day.
Very useful course. Before taking it I would have been very wary about even adjusting brakes and gears but now I'd feel comfortable giving my bike a full service, even changing the gear set. To be honest l learnt about servicing areas I didn't even know needed servicing! Also learnt some very helpful tips on putting a tyre back on and dealing with chain breakages. I'm not particularly mechanically minded and my level of knowledge about how a bike works was quite low but the instructor was very clear, knowledgeable and sensitive. It is a relief to now feel capable of dealing with most road side bike problems now. The course was good value for money and the pay back should be pretty quick.
Hi. Spent a very enjoyable day on the Intensive Maintenance course at Leeds. Went knowing very little about bikes. Came away well informed as a result of the skill and knowledge of the excellent tutor who through demonstration and mentoring us through tasks gave us a basis of information to assist with both repairs and servicing tasks. Highly recommend the course. Well worth the money and the time
