Mike Kluge launched Focus Bicycles in 1992 - the year he was crowned cyclo-cross world champion. It's little wonder that the Mares CX cyclo-cross bike is an especially wonderful example of Focus's carbon fabrication skills.

The Focus Mares CX 3.0 boasts exactly the same frame that the Focus-Rapha Cyclo-cross Team race on. As such, this could well be the least expensive bike you can buy that boasts a pro-proven frame .

• Mares Cyclocross Carbon frame with tapered head tube and BB30 bottom bracket.
• The BB30's 30mm diameter aluminium spindle saves weight and the larger diameter bearings last longer, while the oversized BB shell provides a larger interface with the down tube, seat tube and chain stays. The resulting improvement in torsional stiffness rewards you with an immediate and noticeable power response every time you put pressure on the pedals.
• The tapered steerer and head tube reinforces that highly stressed part of the bike, improves steering (wider bearing races) and helps eliminate the risk of brake judder.
• The 7CX wheels are similar to standard Fulcrum Racing wheels, but with double gasket seals to further protect the sealed bearings against the worst conditions you might come across while cyclo-cross riding.
• Otherwise the Fulcrum Racing 7CX wheels share the original's Fulcrum 2:1 Spoke Ratio where the rear wheel is built with 16 spokes on the drive side and 8 on the LH side. Reinforcing the drive side makes the whole wheel more rigid. This translates as more power and speed every time you accelerate. With the spoke tension more evenly balanced, there’s less stress on the spokes, the rim and the cartridge sealed bearing hub. And as we all know, less stress is the key to longevity.
