Edinburgh Bicycle News 26 August - 1 September 2006

Late Summer Sun
We've received a great batch of new sunglasses to help you relax when you're out enjoying the late summer sun.

Oakley Half Jacket Feminine Sunglasses £89.95
A smaller Oakley Half Jacket for smaller faces.

Oakley Women's Eyewear Case £19.95
And somewhere to keep them.

Specialized New Chicane £79.95
Specialized's Adaptalite Photochromic lenses automatically adjust to the light conditions by going darker when it’s bright, and letting in more light when it’s dark. Easily, the most popular sunglasses with our staff, unless you need prescription specs, I can't think of a reason not to wear Chicanes.

Specialized Optics Case £9.95
New Specialized Chicanes now come supplied with a case. If your old pair didn't, this case will keep them in shape - even if you sit on them.

Uvex Racer Sunglass Set £34.95
'The Uvex Racers are more stylish than most basic priced options, using a similar lens shape to the current Oakley M Frames. This means good peripheral protection and not much gap underneath for wheel spray to sneak in. You get a clear, orange and dark tinted set of lenses to see you right through the year, and they click in and out easily and positively. They certainly look and feel a lot better than most £30 multi lens sets.'

Late Summer Fun
Pedal For Scotland
Join 2,500 cyclists on the annual Glasgow to Edinburgh Ride on Sunday 27 August. The ride leaves George Square at 9.00am. Yes, you can register on the day. Your £15 entry fee will go to Leukaemia Research.

The Great North Bike Ride from Seahouses to Tynemouth is also spookily scheduled to kick off at 9.00 am, Sunday 27 August 2006. The organisers are expecting 1,000 riders at the start: High Street, Seahouses. You can register on the day for £20. All proceeds go to the Chris Lucas Trust.

Both rides are around 50 miles on quiet roads. Each ride will be supported by an Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op back-up van should you need mechanical assistance.

Geordie cyclists who have pledged their support for the Great North Bike Ride

If these rides are not enough of a challenge, and you'd rather do something completely daft, Wan Dae Races involving mountain biking mixed with kayaking and running are being organised at Carron Valley, near Stirling, on 2 September, and at Drumlanrig Castle, near Thornhill, Dumfries and Galloway on 16 September 2006.

New Specialized Bikes
Another sign of late summer: 2007 Specialized bikes are here already. The world's best bicycles have just got better. Specialized Hard Rocks and Specialized Expeditions are here already. We'll upload details as the bikes arrive so keep checking the website.
