Revolution Courier Nexus '06 - £349
'My recommendation without hesitation is the Revolution Courier Nexus. A lightweight but sturdy and easy to maintain commuting bike. Coupled with the maintenance free hub gears which provide a wide gear range, this bike is perfect and great value for money at sub £350. I commute 14 miles a day and this bike is a sheer pleasure to ride.’

Revolution Shadow Scandium '07 - £949 |
Revolution Shadow Scandium '07 - £949
Improved for 2007 with a new Scandium/Aluminium frame that's stiffer but still a gravity-defying 3lb / 1.36kg, and with a SRAM X-series transmission, Avid Juicy 7 disc brakes and DT wheels: this is our best-spec'd, lightest weight (23.8lb / 10.8kg) sub-£1,000 hardtail ever. |

Specialized Tricross Sport '07 - £699.95
|
Specialized Tricross Sport '07 - £699.95
The Specialized Tricross Sport is a very lightweight performance road bike with ‘real life’ features that make it way more practical than the majority of ‘performance only’ road race bikes on the market. Real life features such as clearance for 32mm wide tyres that will float over road/trail imperfections that would jar a 700x23-shod bike. Features like a triple chainset to help ‘flatten’ hills. Features such as mudguard clearance and eyes so you and the bike don’t need to get filthy when the road is wet. Features like carbon fork legs that are raked, not straight, for a smoother ride. Features like Zertz elastomer inserts that make the carbon forks even more shock absorbing.
When Specialized introduced the Tricross in 2006, we praised its innovation. Many of the staff bought one and were wowed by it. We were however secretly worried that the Specialized Tricross Sport might be one of those ‘interesting concept bikes that don’t catch on’. We were pleasantly surprised to discover that the Tricross became our most popular Specialized’s road bike of 2006 outselling, for instance, the long-established, £200-cheaper Specialized Allez. Another scalp for the Campaign for More Practical Bikes.

Revolution Country '06 - £399 |
Revolution Country '06 Receives Two Nominations From Cycling Plus Magazine
Talking of awards, our Revolution Country received two nominations in Cycling Plus magazine's January 2007 round up of the year.
'Budget Bikes
It's a tourer - the Revolution Country - that claims third place on our budget bikes podium. The stiff aluminium frame is not just ready for mudguards and a rear rack but equipped with them. Wide range 24-speed gearing is operated by Shimano Sora shifters, which are easy to use with your hands firmly on the brake hoods, and the cantilever brakes themselves have a pair of bar-top auxiliary levers, which is useful when you're riding on the tops in town and for controlling the bike when signalling. If you want a sub-£400 bike for touring and commuting, this is it.'
'Touring Bikes
The Revolution Country picks up our Bronze Award. This bike scored 8/10 in our test and we don't think there's a better way of discovering the world of touring on a budget. Well thought out and ready to ride.'
The Revolution Country costs £399. First and second places went to bikes that cost £1,199 and £1,940 respectively.

Bicycle Winter Film Festival: 4-5 February
On these cold, blustery days, we thought you might welcome a bicycle festival that can be enjoyed in the warmth and comfort of a cinema. Edinburgh's first Bicycle Film Festival (June 2006) was a huge success and is set to become a regular Edinburgh Filmhouse event during Bike Week. For the organisers, a once a year festival of 'must see' cycling films seemed just too small a window to show the eclectic mix of wonderful cycling films that receive huge acclaim from audiences world wide. Hence this mini winter festival of bicycle films. Tickets available now from Edinburgh Filmhouse Box Office 0131 228 2688.
