Sweet Nutcracker
Ever since they invented the folding tyre, and manufactured the first mass-produced mountain bike we've recognised Specialized as a bicycle company of rare genius. But even Specialized have excelled themselves with their latest production - a rendition of Tchaikovsky's Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy from The Nutcracker Suite - played on bicycle parts. You can watch this short but perfectly formed video on the Specialized website.

Cyclaire Pump £22.95

Photo of Cyclaire Bike Pump

The Cyclaire pump was invented by Northumbrian Julian Peck (a regular customer at our Newcastle store). The Cyclaire is truly different. You simply step on the body of the pump (as you would the stirrups of a track pump). Then pull a cord (as you would an outboard motor's). This drives a pulley mechanism inside the pump's body, which in turn drives a piston that blasts air out of the hose much faster than any hand pump.

The Cyclaire therefore offers track pump-like performance and ease of use in a compact format. It incorporates a pressure gauge and it comes with a frame/seatpost-mounting case. Last Year it was voted Cycling Plus Innovation of the Year. This year the Cyclaire was voted Best British Invention by the viewers of Sky TV's Big Idea.

Cat Eye HL-EL135 / TL-LD 130 Light Set £24.95

Photo of Cat Eye Light Set EL135/TL 130

Talking of award winners, the Cat Eye HL-EL135 front lamp picked up a perfect 10/10 score in Cycling Weekly's (7 December 2006) test of 28 budget (under £70) bicycle lights. 'Making use of Opticube technology, Cat Eye has squeezed an incredible beam from the HL-EL135. The small neat design takes up little room, and the new 'modern jubillee clip' clamp is very secure. £19.99.'

Match it up with the 3-LED TL-LD130 rear light (worth £8) and you have a brilliant light set.

Revolution Blade Sunglass Set £19.95

Our sunglass set with switchable lenses - smoke for bright light, yellow for low light, clear for no light - is another award winner (Recommended: Cycling Plus).

‘All in all, the best set of cycling glasses I’ve tested, offering change from a £20 note.
Verdict: 9/10 It would be a 10 if spare lenses were available.’
(P.S. we now stock spare lenses. Fiver a pair.)

My First Abus Lock £14.95

Photo of My First Abus Lock

My First Abus Lock hasn't won an award yet, but if it was ever reviewed, I'm confident it would. This child-friendly lock helps encourage the sound habit of locking up your bike every time you leave it. My First Abus boasts an automatic locking cylinder - you don’t require the key to close it. Just push ‘the wee guy’ into ‘the car’ and the lock is secure. When you do want to unlock My First Abus, the key works both ways - i.e. you can turn it clockwise or anti-clockwise to open the lock. Supplied with carry bag that can be Velcro-strapped to the bike frame. Comes in Red or Blue.

Cannondale Seedpod £12.95 or £19.95

The Seedpod is a cyclist's seatpack. You know, those wee bags that clip under the saddle and prove themselves the perfect place for storing emergency pocket tools and emergency food bars. As ever, Cannondale do it differently. Their Seedpod is not a bag. It's a moulded hard case, foam lined to prevent your cargo rattling. It's waterproof and it comes in 2 sizes: 0.7 and the 2.1 litres.
