Echowell Echo XR Cycle Computer/Cadence/Heart Rate Monitor £49.95
'Echowell have been manufacturers of some of the all-time great cycling computers but we hardly ever notice as they usually have someone else's name on them. The Echo XR, though, is a new format from Echowell, incorporating a large screen display, heart rate monitor, and a new waterproof construction.

Handy features among the plenty it has to offer include a scan mode, where the unit will cycle through the assorted data sources and display them one after another. This removes the need for you to move your hands from the bars.

There's also a backlight system, and it works a treat.

The heart rate function is updated rapidly, and it's clear and easy to use, with no interference we could muster, even within inches of high power solid state devices (such as high intensity LED lights). You can input a target zone to keep your heart rate within, so that if you go out of this zone either way the unit will sound a fairly loud bleep so you can ease off, or put the hammer down a bit more.

Standard functions of the cycle computer are also there, such as scan, speed, speed pacer, maximum speed, average speed, odometer, ride time and clock.
Verdict
: Great for the money, not overly complicated, fairly easy to set up. 8/10.'

Review #2 Echowell Echo XR Cycle Computer/Cadence/Heart Rate Monitor £49.95
'Echowell has been around for a while now, but is still relatively unknown. The Echo XR is not only an HRM but has wireless cadence and wired speed functions. A super-large screen allows simultaneous viewing of both the heart rate and cycling data, appearing on opposite sides of the screen. With such a large display it's not the smallest thing on your bars, but when training with heart rate zones this is helpful as it keeps you in your HR zone and it's always encouraging to see your speed increase as you push harder.

Another useful function is the scan mode that scrolls through the data, alleviating the need to have to do it yourself. Setting up the Echo XR was relatively simple and in use we experienced no interference, even when in close proximity to other HRMs. Six heart rate zones can be set, with an alarm to let you know when you breach either side of the set limit, with the current heart rate being updated continually to give an accurate reading. The only negative comment was that the chest strap was a little beefier than most, along with the mounting bracket, making for a large instrument on the bars. Not to everyone's taste but altogether a very well built unit, at a very respectable price.'
