Edinburgh - St Andrews LEPRA Ride

Great route, great ride, great cause. The Edinburgh - St Andrews Ride is Scotland's longest-established charity ride. Edinburgh Bicycle Co-operative are proud to have offered free mechanical support since the LEPRA ride's inception in 1981. We love its inclusiveness. While the fittest riders can cover the 68 miles in the morning, family groups can take their time and make it a whole fun day out. Enjoyed by up to 1,200 cyclists each year, we believe that the Edinburgh to St Andrews Ride is one of the best days in the cycling calendar, but you don't have to take our word for it. Check this impartial article by a regular Edinburgh - St Andrews rider.

Chain Events C2C Coast to Coast Ride

The C2C is the most popular long distance cycle route in the UK. It traverses Northern England from Coast to Coast taking in the magnificent scenery of the Lake District and the North Pennines. The C2C route was originally conceived and mapped by David Gray when he was a Sustrans employee. He now runs Chain Events to make endurance events, such as the C2C, more accessible for the everyday reasonably fit rider. Chain Events' moto is you do the pedalling, we do the meddling. In other words, Chain Events will take care of the tiresome logistics of organising transport, luggage and so forth so you can get out and enjoy the cycling. To facilitate this excellent process, Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op lay on free mechanical support over the whole weekend. To find out more and to register for the C2C click here.

Edinburgh Bicycle-Sponsored Rollapaluza National Series Leeds Event

Time & Date: From 18:00, Wednesday 27 February 2013.
Venue: The New Conservatory, Albion Place, Leeds, LS1 6JL
Entry Price: £5 whether you participate or just come to watch

Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op are sponsoring the prizes at this year's Rollapaluza National Series event in Leeds next Wednesday.

In case you did not know, Rollapaluza Roller Racing is a unique cycle sport where two participants race against each other on fixed wheel bikes mounted on custom-built rollers, which are connected to a huge clock. Split-second digital timers track each rider as they pedal over a simulated 500m distance. Top riders reach speeds of over 50mph (80kph). Even us slower riders get over 30mph. Each event takes place in a pub or club to a backdrop of music and cheering, all of which is kept rolling along by the MC.

Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op sponsored last year's Leeds leg of the Rollapaluza National Series. It was among the best cycling event we have ever attended. It was so inclusive and well organised. The Rollapaluza crew are very friendly and encouraging. They ensure that riding on their rollers is as safe as a spinning class session. Anyone can have a go, whether you're a punter off the street or the local racing club hot shot. You can choose not to ride and still feel totally involved. Each race takes only around half a minute so you won't get bored. It's strictly knock-out so the field swiftly gets smaller and smaller till there is a winning man and a winning woman. The music is cleverly synchronised with each ride and surprisingly varied. We would go so far as to say that attending a Rollapaluza National Series event can be as much fun and more involving than watching the Mountain Bike World Cup at Fort Bill or a Tour stage in France. Rollapaluza is that good.

In tune with the informal spontaneous spirit of Rollapaluza you don't have to register or buy a ticket in advance to attend or participate in this National Series event. Just turn up on the evening at about 6.00pm and have a wild time.

‘POP2’ will start from the Meadows in Edinburgh at 3pm on Sunday 19 May and end at the Parliament building where politicians will be presented with an eight-point manifesto. Last year, 3000 cyclists, young and old, attended – an amazing turnout considering Pedal on Parliament is a grass-roots group that didn’t even exist a year ago.

Pedal on Parliament urges anyone who cycles in Scotland, or who would like to cycle in Scotland but doesn’t feel safe to join them for POP2 and maintain the pressure on the Scottish Government to put cycling at the heart of its transport policy. Together we can make Scotland a cycle-friendly nation.
