Bicycles are what the Bike Co-op is all about. Quite simply we look on bicycles as an all-round good thing. That's why we don't restrict our range to any specific niche or brand. That's why our bicycle range includes road bikes, cross bikes, touring bikes, mountain bikes, women's bikes, unisex bikes, kids' bikes, balance bikes, pro-quality bikes and beginners' bikes. We also cover the whole sector that comes under the rainbow banner, 'hybrid bikes' including flat bar commuter/hybrid bikes, high-bar comfort bikes, Pashley bikes (a group unto themselves), folding bikes and electric bikes.
Why? Because as Pulitzer Prize-winning Californian novelist William Saroyan famously wrote, 'The bicycle is the noblest invention of mankind. I love the bicycle. I always have. I can think of no sincere, decent human being, male or female, young or old, saint or sinner, who can resist the bicycle.'
Whyte bikes originally made their name with their 'UK-proof' mountain bikes, expressly designed to be more rain and mud proof than the competition by featuring, for instance, lifetime guaranteed suspension bearings. In more recent years, Whyte have devoted as much attention to creating equally UK-proof hybrid bikes and road bikes - all disc brake-equipped. What sets Whyte Bikes apart? Whyte's chief designer, Ian Alexander, replied ‘We see ourselves as a riders’ brand. When we give experienced cyclists a Whyte to try out, they almost always ‘get it’ immediately.'
